SOC 205: Introduction to Research Methods in Sociology

Prerequisites: SOC 101 or SOC 101H; and PSYC 104, PSYC 104H, or SOC 125; and ENGL C1000.
Enrollment Limitation: Concurrent enrollment in PSYC 104, PSYC 104H, or SOC 125 for students with MATH 103 or STAT C1000 credit.

This course introduces the fundamental methods of research and how sociologists use them to examine, investigate, and think critically on topics related to the discipline. It emphasizes an appreciation of the scientific method, the development of research skills, knowledge of research ethics, and the evaluation of scientific research. Students conduct library research, design and implement research projects using appropriate methodologies and controls, analyze and interpret data using a statistical computer program, and write research reports using APA format. Students with MATH 103/STAT C1000 may take PSYC 104 or SOC 125 concurrently with this course. C-ID SOCI-120.
